WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, along with 215 national associations and state and local chambers, sent a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to finalize the progress made and immediately vote to reopen the government to end the shutdown.
"We are now in the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. With each passing day the harm to American families, our communities, and economy grow, as do the risks to our security and safety," wrote the signers. "We applaud those lawmakers who are working together across the aisle to identify a path forward and urge both chambers and political parties to immediately end the shutdown."
Over the weekend, the Chamber expressed support for the Senate’s legislative package to reopen the government, and last week, Chamber President and CEO Suzanne P. Clark called on Senate Democrats to immediately vote to reopen the federal government.
Since the onset of the shutdown, the Chamber has highlighted the harm it has inflicted on small businesses, the economy, and national security.
